April Merrick

Principal Consultant and Owner, Organic Governance

April is the principal consultant and owner of Organic Governance. April is an Agricultural Scientist by training with a deep love for the environment and a limitless sense of adventure. A combination that has taken her career in many directions and to many places (Rural North West China, Lombok Indonesia, Alberta Canda, Melbourne, and many country towns in Tasmania, Victoria and NSW).

April has worked for private business’s, Government organisations, the Not for profit/charity sector and self-employed. Some roles of note are an agricultural adviser to farmers in rural Victoria, a Senior Scientist for the Department of Primary Industries (VIC), Executive Officer of an environment focused charity, grants advisor to Federal Government Dept Agriculture and a Non-Executive Director of Coliban Water Corporation.

It is April’s passion for environmental systems and natural processes that has steered her career to understand deeper business / organisational systems and how humans (business owners, employees and customers) respond to them. Applying her scientific and environmental background April has seen that creating and running a business has similar principles to those used in and by the natural environment.

This has led to the creation of Organic Governance. A consulting business that helps business/organisations/community groups to take a deeper and more ‘organic’  look at their business systems and how they govern their business. April believes that your business is an organic system and like a plant or other natural system it must nourish itself (i.e. you ) to survive and thrive.
